Guatemala is the poorest countrty in Central and South America. There are 7.73 Guatmemalan quetzals per US dollar. As such, it can be assumed that several areas of the govenrment would be corrupt on several levels.

State-run orphanages provide horrible living conditions for the inhabitants. They are usually as bad or worse than the average house pet. The government funds all end up in the pockets of the administrators. They eat a maximum of two meals a day.

Maya Jade has established one orphanage in Guatemala, the Casa de Sion. It has room for about 200 children, however, they have only so far admitted around 35 children. This because they currently lack the proper funds to support any more.
